“I read in your book that everybody has the power to do miracles. I
mean things that Jesus did, for example. I want to know how to use this
power. It is good to know that we humans have the power, but I am
interested in using the power and not to talk about it. I hope you can
understand my question, my English is not good.”
The letter made me smile. It reminded me of when I gave my daughter,
Tracey, her first driving lesson. It was truly nerve-racking. We were
discussing her lack of 'listening to me, the instructor' skills when
she strongly told me, “I don't want to learn to drive, I just want to
be able to do it. I hate the learning bit!”
Miracles are a bit like that. We would all like to be able to perform
miracles, but very few of us are prepared to go through the learning
process of life that enables us to perform them. Yes, we do all have
the power to perform miracles, of that there is no doubt, but very few
of us indeed have reached the place of responsibility and wisdom that
accompanies miracle making. Miracle working is not just about our
power; it is much more about being in our power. Miracles happen in the
moment; very few people are ever conscious enough of being in the
moment to either perform, or even witness, miracles.
The person with the question uses Jesus as an example, so I, too, will
use him. I have to ask though, does the questioner have any idea what
Jesus went through to reach the state of consciousness from which he
could work miracles? After his early years of training Jesus lived in
his power, consciously aware of the moment of life in which he was
expressing Self. Miracles are about being aware of the movement in the
moment of life. Being aware of the movement in the moment is like
listening to the silence between heartbeats, the place where
life/consciousness is in the process of creation. We, all of us, are
creating our lives in every moment. This is something I remind people
who do my 5-day Intensives: In every moment of your life you are
creating the content of every moment of your life. Food for thought,
huh? In every moment you are the creator of your life; all that happens
is part of your creation. And this creation is a never-ending process.
It extends from your time as a foetus right through the whole of your
physical life, and continuing when you go through your transition from
physical life to purely metaphysical life. We call this death!
However, you need to be aware that during our so-called physical lives
we are also living a metaphysical life. In fact, the metaphysical
precedes the physical. Your physical life reflects your metaphysical
life, not the other way around. I have no doubt that Jesus knew all
this . . . and lived within that frame of awareness. Among his
miracles, Jesus is reputed to have brought a man back from the dead, so
let's look at what this really means. Most Christians believe that
so-called death is a once-only process, so for them dead is dead. When
you truly know life, you also know death. There is no death.
Consciousness draws to Self physical form through which to express; the
expression is consciousness. We call this life. When consciousness
withdraws from that physical form, we call this death. But always life
is the expressing consciousness, and this never falters or fails.
When Jesus healed the sick and brought the so-called dead back to life,
he simply focussed his human power/energy into Love and Truth. Such was
the clarity of his knowing of life, the illusion of death was held back
by the sheer power of his field of energy, his aura. Very few people
are aware of, or ever really use, the incredible power of human focus.
Where you focus, energy flows. Jesus used his focus to such effect that
his energy changed the reality that conformed to consensus belief to a
reality that was the Truth he held within his focus. You and I have the
power to do this, but using it . . . !
Jesus said, “Whatsoever I do, greater things shall you do also.” He was
referring to the latent power that is within each one of us, but this
power only comes in perfect timing. And we are the timing. In the way
that we conduct our lives, we are either increasing or delaying the
timing of consciously moving into our power.
Remember, I have said that we are creating the content of our every
moment. We have been doing this for so long, throughout so many of our
lifetimes, living in such a confused and fearful reaction to the
illusions of life, that our creation is like a runaway train that is
now just carrying us along, come what may. And we believe this mishmash
of everyday incidents and accidents, trauma and drama, is the stuff of
life. Wrong. It's the stuff of our everyday consciousness, being
created moment by moment. It is the stuff of habit, of conditioning,
and of attachment to all this.
How can we change it? This is not easy, but it is certainly possible.
First, you have to choose to change it. Then you have to act on that
choice. You also have to focus into the unfolding moment of your life.
And you have to make a lifetime commitment to your choice and the
actions required to carry it out.
Choice, action, focus, and commitment; these are essential. However,
nothing is going to immediately stop the runaway train of our past
reactive creation; its momentum is too great for that. Nevertheless, by
choosing to lovingly respond to the 'slings and arrows' of past
creation, instead of fearfully reacting to them, we begin applying the
brakes and reducing the steam! By putting loving choice into action, we
are moving into our power. This requires clear focus and a deep
commitment, a commitment that will endure throughout our lives. When we
make that commitment in consciousness, and it is absolute, then all
consciousness of all life is involved in the movement of the moment in
which we are aware and focussed. This is power! And we all have this
power. It is inherent to our lives and living. But (there's always a
‘but) we have to learn how to creatively harness and direct that power
through clear focus and a knowing of the Truth of life. If we believe
in life's illusions, and react to them as is considered normal, then
life's illusions will just keep rolling along, and our struggle will
continue. On the other hand, if we become students of life, beginning
with the premise of actually acknowledging we know very little about
life, and commit ourselves to learning the Truth of life, then we are
on a journey that will take us to the place of miracles.
However, bear in mind how Jesus died! Nobody thanked him for his
miracles. If someone performed miracles before us, would this empower
us . . . or reduce us? Think about it - would you, personally, feel
more powerful, or more envious? Would you think, 'I can do miracles,'
or resent someone else who could? Like it or not, history indicates
that the more powerful a person is - whether for good or bad - the more
they are resented and even hated. We need to learn to live and grow
into our power. We need to learn to use power wisely, so we can each
become a person who can perform miracles. We need to realise that you
and I can be the greatest miracles of all. To overcome the illusions of
life and become the person of your greatest potential is a great
miracle indeed, and it is in perfect accord with the movement of the
moment. To live a life of unconditional Love is the great miracle we
all need.
There is far more to miracles than walking on water and similar
phenomena. Just suppose I, for example, was able to do my public
speaking while sitting in a lotus position hovering in the air about a
metre above the platform. Tens of thousands of people would come to
witness this spectacular event, but would they listen any more intently
to my words? No. They would talk excitedly about a miracle, and be even
more ensnared by the dramatic phenomenon than by their everyday
illusions. So what would I be offering of extra value to the thousands
of people? Nothing.
The simple reality is I cannot even sit in a lotus position. Hurts my
knees! Nor do I need to. But I am able to consciously live in a way
whereby anxiety and worry are no longer in, or part of, my life. I have
forgotten what worry and anxiety feel like. So if you want miracles,
start with the little miracles of living in real peace and true Love
within yourself. Reach that place of unconditional Love for all
humanity.
These are the miracles we need, and we need as many people involved as
possible. We need the miracle of responding with love, instead of
reacting with anger, to the hurtful words of other people. We need the
miracle of a loving smile to transform the moment for unhappy
strangers. We need the miracle of open, loving hearts.
So, to the person with the question . . . go for it. Live the miracle
of your own Love. For Love is the greatest miracle of all.
In Love and Light,
Michael |
